Shows like “So You Think You Can Dance” and “America’s Got Talent” often feature individuals and groups likely to be the next generation of hip hop dancers. If you think you have what it takes to be the next hip hop dancer, though, you’re seriously mistaken if you’ve left out one of the most important ingredients – the clothes!

Getting the Right Style

It’s hard to imagine someone like Beyonce coming out on stage in a pair of jeans and a t-shirt she just purchased at a local store. You might not have a personal costume designers like big stars do, but if you’re looking to break into this awesome scene, stylish Hip Hop Dancewear is an absolute must!

Here are just a few of the things you’ll want to consider.

- Color – It may seem like a given, but getting the right colors can’t be ignored. Save those quiet blues and subdued pastels for your next family dinner. Here it’s all about loud, bright outfits that complement the music you’re Dancing to. Here it’s all about outrageous pinks, screaming electric blues, and sparkling silver and gold that simply can’t be stopped even by the hippest music.

- The Shine Factor – There’s no way they’re going to notice you on stage unless your outfit has the ability to scream at them from afar, and that’s where the shine factor comes in. Sequins, shining fabrics, and other embellishments are only going to be a help to your moves while you’re on stage.

A Few Things to Remember

As you get ready to pick out the right dancewear for you or your team as a whole, there are a few other things you’ll want to remember.

- How it fits is just as important as how it looks. You’re going to be showing off your best moves, but you can’t do that if the outfit is too tight or too loose. Dancewear sizing is not the same as the method you might use when you’re buying street clothes, and you’ve probably never seen one of Rihanna’s dancers fall on stage because she picked out the wrong sized outfit. In most cases, you can find the bust/waist/hip measurements on the site before you purchase your outfit. Don’t just choose the smallest thing you can squeeze into. It will affect your routine.

- Your shoes matter too. You wouldn’t slip on a pair of flip-flops and head to the studio to practice, would you?
